Explore Cologne

Cologne is a feeling. Millions of visitors come to this metropolis on the Rhine every year to explore the city and its tourist attractions. In Germany’s fourth-largest city, there’s always something new to experience! Cologne is colorful, friendly and open, cozy and relaxed. That’s partly due to the city’s size: it offers a vast array of experiences and evening events, and most of them are located only a stone’s throw apart. That makes it easy to plan and get around. Another aspect of Cologne’s welcoming atmosphere is its friendly people and ample opportunities for communication — on the street, in the neighborhoods or in a museum. Explore what makes Cologne great!

Traveling to Germany—Visa Requirements

It is possible that registered attendees (and their guests, if applicable) will need a visa to visit Germany. Learn more about visa requirements from the German Government. This website is a great resource to determine if you need a visa, what visa to apply for, the application process, visa fees and processing times, and so much more.

If you need to apply for a visa to attend the Congress, you are advised to apply for your visa as soon as possible. All applicants must be able to qualify for a visa on their own merits. The society cannot intervene with embassies in other countries on behalf of any meeting participants.

Confirmed presenters and those who submit an abstract can request an invitation letter prior to registration opening by completing the Invitation Letter Request.

We encourage you to register early once registration is open for the 2025 IS-MPMI Congress. Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to download and print your invitation letter. You may submit this letter with your visa application to verify the name, dates, location, and purpose of the Congress. You may also take your registration confirmation paperwork to your visa interview.

Residents of the U.S. traveling to Germany require a valid passport.  More information is available on the U.S. State Department website.

Traveling From China

If you are traveling from China, you must apply for a German visa at VFS Global Visa Application Center in China that corresponds to your area of residence. For additional information, click here to read about the process of applying for a German visa from China.
